Building a mailing list the right way
A good mailing list brings people back. A bad one, bought or copied from your booking diary, can get you into trouble. The safe way is simple: people tick a box, confirm it, and can leave any time.
The basics in plain English
In the UK, the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) is the regulator for data protection. In general, you need a person's clear permission before you send them marketing emails. That means they choose it themselves, you keep a record, and they can stop whenever they like. Pre-ticked boxes and "you booked, so we can email you" are the usual traps. Check the ICO guidance for your own situation.
How Nabsie does it
On your booking page, above the Book button, the guest sees a box: Email me news and offers from followed by your venue name. It is not ticked in advance, so it is the guest's own choice. If they tick it, they get one email asking them to confirm, and they only go on your list once they click. Every email you send has an unsubscribe link that cannot be removed. The booking terms box is the only one ticked in advance.
Watch it grow
Open Mailing list in the left menu (owner logins only). You see On your list, Joined last 30 days, Awaiting confirmation and Unsubscribed, plus a chart of sign ups by week.
Sending and exporting
Sending emails to your list is switched on for a venue on request, with email credits bought as you go. Open a support ticket to ask. You can also download the list as a CSV. Once it is on your computer, looking after it is your responsibility under GDPR, so keep it private and do not paste it into other tools without thinking.
Good habits
Send something worth reading, and not too often. Only email about what they signed up for. Never add guests to the list by hand just because they booked.

FAQ
Häufige Fragen
Can I email everyone who ever booked?
Booking a table is not the same as agreeing to marketing. Only guests who ticked the box and confirmed are on your list.
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a plain English summary. For anything specific, check the ICO website or ask a professional.
Who needs to pay for sending?
Email credits are bought as you go. Each credit is one email to one person.
Can guests leave the list?
Yes. Every email has an unsubscribe link. The Mailing list page shows how many have left.
